Surgical Procedure

Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty, commonly referred to as a “nose job,” is a surgical procedure designed to reshape the nose, improving its appearance or function. It is one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries worldwide, chosen by individuals looking to enhance their facial harmony or address medical issues such as breathing difficulties. Whether you are considering rhinoplasty for cosmetic or medical reasons, understanding what the procedure involves can help you make an informed decision.

Reasons to Consider Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty can address a variety of concerns, both cosmetic and medical. Many people choose rhinoplasty to achieve aesthetic goals, such as reshaping the nasal tip or bridge, correcting asymmetry, adjusting the size of the nostrils, or creating a nose that is more proportional to their facial features. Beyond appearance, rhinoplasty can also provide significant medical benefits. It can improve breathing by correcting nasal obstructions, repair deformities caused by injury or trauma, and address congenital defects or issues from previous surgeries. Whether you’re seeking to enhance your appearance, improve your health, or both, rhinoplasty offers a tailored solution to meet your needs.

The Rhinoplasty Process

Initial Consultation Your journey begins with a consultation where you’ll discuss your goals and medical history. A physical exam and 3D imaging may be used to visualize potential outcomes.

Customized Surgical Plan Based on your needs, your surgeon will develop a personalized plan, whether you require:

  • Open Rhinoplasty: A small incision at the base of the nose.
  • Closed Rhinoplasty: Incisions made inside the nostrils for minimal visible scarring.

The Procedure Performed under general or local anesthesia, rhinoplasty typically takes 1-3 hours. The surgeon may adjust the nasal bone, cartilage, or soft tissues.

Recovery Final results become apparent within 6-12 months as swelling subsides. Expect mild swelling and bruising for 1-2 weeks. Return to light activities within 1-2 weeks and full activities in 4-6 weeks.

Risks and Considerations As with any surgery, rhinoplasty carries some risks, including: temporary swelling and bruising, nosebleeds, or minor infection.
